LSAT Information

The LSAT is the Law School Admission Test and is administered by the Law School Admission Council. It is a standardized test required by nearly all ABA-approved law schools. The test consists of five sections, four of which are scored. The sections include one reading comprehension section, one analytical reasoning section, and two logical reasoning sections. The unscored section is generally used to pretest new test questions. There is also a writing sample, which is not scored but is sent to all the law schools to which the student applies. The LSAT is offered four times each year - June, October, December, and February. The LSAT National Test Dates for this academic year are September 26, 2009, December 5, 2009, and February 6, 2010. For times, location and additional information, please visit www.lsac.org. You should take the LSAT at least one year before you intend to enter law school. Hence, for most students, the optimal time to take the LSAT is either the June proceeding the junior year or the October during the senior year.

Visit LSAC online for information, online registration, deadlines, and additional resources. There are many services available to help you prepare for the LSAT. LSAC offers many resources, including sample exams. The WC Career Center also has helpful materials.

Florida State Law - Summer for Undergraduate Program

Thinking about law school? Florida State Law is currently accepting applications for its 19th Annual Summer for Undergraduates Program, which provides students with an inside look at law school and the legal profession. The 2010 program will take place May 17-June 11. All undergraduate students, except those graduating in spring 2010, are eligible to apply. Applicants will be notified of the decision by mid-April. Approximately 60 students will be chosen from the applicant pool to participate in the intensive, four-week program. Daily lecture classes taught by Florida State Law professors will familiarize students with the functions of the American legal system and the process by which conflicts are resolved. Writing classes will help students develop their writing and communication skills. In addition to the rigourous academic focus of the program, participants will also be exposed to LSAT preparation workshops and a simulated exam, law school admissions sessions, visits to the Florida Supreme Court and local law firms, and guest lectures by prominent attorneys in a variety of practice areas.

Florida State Law provides free room and board, course materials and a $500 stipend to all participants. There is no program tuition, but participants are responsible for their travel expenses to and from Tallahassee. Students can access additional information about the program, including a downloadable application, frequently asked questions, and a sample schedule from www.law.fsu.edu/slp.
